Sinovenator was a small dinosaur that lived in China during the early
Cretaceous period,
between about 130 and 125 million years ago.
Sinovenator was about 3½ feet (1 meter) long, and was probably omnivorous (ate both
meat and plant material). It probably lived in woodland areas and is thought to have
been a fast runner.
In the picture above, it is shown with feathers - although there
is (at the time of writing) no direct evidence that Sinovenator had feathers,
we do know that some of its close relatives, other members of the Troodontidae family,
did have feathers. Additionally, at the time of writing, no complete skull
from Sinovenator has yet been found, so the depiction of the head in the picture
is somewhat speculative.
Sinovenator was a member of the Saurischia ("lizard-hipped") order of dinosaurs. What this means, is that although Sinovenator was not closely related to lizards, it did have similarly shaped pelvic bones.
Sinovenator was a Theropod - a member of a group of related bipedal dinosaurs that included the ancestors of birds (although Sinovenator was not itself an ancestor of birds).
Sinovenator lived between about 130 million years ago and 125 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period.
