Torvosaurus
Torvosaurus was a carnivore (meat-eater) that lived in the late
Jurassic period,
about 144 million years ago.
Fossils
of the animal were first found in North America
(in Dry Mesa Quarry in
Colorado),
but subsequently have been found in
Europe
(specifically
Portugal).
Torvosaurus is believed to have been the largest
Theropod dinosaur living in the
Jurassic period.
It was about 30 to 36 feet (9 to 11 meters) in length, about 8 feet (2.5 meters)
tall at the hips, and weighed at least 2 tons.
Scientists believe that Torvosaurus was fairly closely related to
the somewhat earlier dinosaur,
Megalosaurus
