Riojasaurus was a herbivore (plant-eater) that lived in South America
during the late Triassic period,
about 225 to 219 million years ago.
The name means "Rioja lizard" and was chosen because the
first specimen was found in the La Rioja Province of Argentina.
Riojasaurus was about to 33 feet (10 meters) long. It had a heavy body
and bulky legs, as well as a long neck and tail.
The structure of the animal's
skeleton suggests that it always walked on all
four legs (relatively unusual for an early dinosaur), although it
could probably rear up on its hind legs.
