Utahraptor was a carnivore (meat-eater) that lived in
North America during
the early Cretaceous period,
between about 132 and 119 million years ago.
Its name,
was chosen in reflection of the fact that it
was discovered in the Cedar Mountain Formation in Grand County,
Utah.
Utahraptor was about 21 feet (6 meters) long, about 6½ feet (2 meters) tall,
and probably weighed around 1,500 pounds (700 kilograms).
Utahraptor's most formidable
weapon was the hige curved claws on its hind feet.
Older reconstructions of the animal generally depict as being
featherless, or with perhaps a crest of a few feathers. Today however,
there the view that this animal would have been covered in feathers is
increasingly accepted.

Revivify Press Released: 2012-01-25 Kindle Edition (43 pages)
 | | Product Description: “You can shield yourself behind all the laws and legal fights that will happen from being an inspector and never have the time to work with raptors unless you quit that career . . . Or you could be on the cutting-edge science of training domestic raptors. But the choice is yours. And you have to make it now.” Autumn McKinney is the daughter of a renowned exotic animal veterinarian-turned-government official of West America, inheriting his gift of compassion towards animals of all species. In her lifetime, several species of the once-extinct, warm-blooded proto-avians of the prehistoric age were cloned and carefully bred towards domestication. With a determination that surprised herself, Autumn dove headlong into research that lead her to the beginning of understanding their minds and behaviors. Smarter than apes, unbreakable bonds to those whom they considered their Alpha, their reconception was considered a miracle. But if Autumn was determined to follow in her father’s footsteps, how could she dedicate herself to the propagation of Utahraptor regenesis? |
