Zalmoxes was a genus of herbivorous (plant-eating) dinosaurs
that lived in Europe
(fossils have been found
in Romania and
Austria)
during the late
Cretaceous period
about 69 million years ago.
Depending on the particular species of Zalmoxes (two species are known),
the animal grew to between 7 to 10 feet (2 to 3 meters), or between 13 to 15 feet (4 to 4.5 meters)
long.
"Zalmoxes" is named after an ancient Dacian (Romanian) diety.
Zalmoxes was a member of the Ornithischia ("bird-hipped") order of dinosaurs. What this means, is that although Zalmoxes was not closely related to birds, it did have similarly shaped pelvic bones.
Zalmoxes lived about 69 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous period.
Depending on the particular species in question, Zalmoxes was between 7 and 10 feet (2 to 3 meters), or between 13 and 15 feet (4 to 4.5 meters), in length.
Zalmoxes weighed about 500 pounds (226 kilograms).
