Creodonts were once believed to have been ancestral to Carnivora, but today, the many similarities betwen Creodonts and modern carnivores are instead considered the result of convergent evolution.
One of the best known Creodonts was Megistotherium, which lived during the Miocene epoch and was about 24 million years ago in Egypt and Libya. Megistotherium was about enormous, about 16 to 18 feet (5 to 6 meters) long, and weighed around 1½ tons - according too many scientists, it was as large, or even larger than Andrewsarchus.
Creodonts were carnivores (meat-eating) mammals that lived between 60 and 8 million years ago
