Saltoposuchus was a genus of crocodile-like archosaur that
lived in
Europe
and North America,
during the Triassic period,
perhaps around 220 million years ago.
Saltoposuchus was between about 3 feet (1 meter) and 5 feet (1.5 meters) long.
It had long hind limbs, and shorter arms, and probably was a fast bipedal (two-legged)
runner, although it almost certainly could walk on quadrupedal (four-legged) fashion
as well.
In some books, Saltoposchus is described as being
an early
dinosaur, or as being
either the direct
ancestor of, or closely related to the ancestor of, the
dinosaurs.
Today however, most scientists do not believe that Saltoposuchus
was a dinosaur or
dinosaur ancestor.
