Triconodonts are an extinct group of mammals
that lived during
the
Triassic,
Jurassic and
Cretaceous
periods, between about 220 million and 65 million years ago.
They are believed to be close relatives to the ancestors of
all present day mammals.
Triconodonts were small, fury, andlong tails. They are
believed to have lived in burrows and been nocturnal.
They probably fed upon insects and small reptiles.
Although classified as mammals, Triconodonts did however
still have some primitive reptile-like features - for example,
Jeholodens (a particular genus) is thought to have had
sprawling hind limbs.
